GROWING A VILLAGE
Our Art Room (OAR) is a critique series collaborative of women and gender non-conforming artists in their early careers. This collective is an incubator for emerging artists to have an intentional space to meet monthly for critique sessions, grow networks, share resources, and provide accountability to each other in a community setting. The collective offers a supportive environment for artists to bypass the exclusionary standards of the ‘art world’ and the institutions that uphold them.
The objective of the community space is to create an environment that does not exist for artists who are seeking to develop their practices outside of the large institutional context. OAR intends to provide access to artistic resources that otherwise would be unavailable or difficult to navigate for artists in their early careers. Often, the process of gaining access to gallery venues, critique spaces, and knowledge regarding artistic success is exploitative and exhausting. We seek to create a new standard within our communities.
Growing a Village is the first culminating show of a six month collaborative critique series.
